Fashion and Apparel Design 161

Fashion 161 is an introductory laboratory course designed to combine a hands-on experience with machine work for garment construction while integrating an understanding of fashion design with the use of sewing tools and machinery. Students will develop skills necessary for making clothing and personal accessories. Students are introduced to wardrobe planning, fashion trend forecasting, and the fashion design process. Students develop skills to create a digital portfolio that embodies their creativity and designs throughout the semester and showcase their work professionally. Student purchases materials and supplies independently. He/She is required to construct a flannel pant garment and one small choice project. Other sewing projects are determined individually between teacher and student based upon the student’s needs, interests and demonstrated ability.
