Japanese 273

Students continue to develop more advanced competency in the target language within the context of culturally rich thematic units. Performance-based activities allow students to speak and write in practiced, familiar situations as well as occasional unfamiliar topics with increasing independence. Listening and reading skills are further developed through the use of authentic materials, including literature, to interpret basic information and recognize key details with emerging evidence of inference making at a deeper level. Students continue to explore Japanese speaking culture(s) in new contexts, as well as make comparisons and connections to their own experiences. Communication in the classroom (teacher-student and/or student-student) takes place in Japanese.
