Mandarin Chinese 573

The course aims to further develop student’s critical thinking and linguistic skills, as well as to deepen their cultural understanding of the Chinese speaking culture(s). This course is thematically anchored with authentic resources such as films, music, art and literature. Each theme requires students to explore current events with support and independently, as well as the historical, sociocultural and geopolitical contexts of the cultures studied. This is done through tasks in the three modes of communication at a higher level of proficiency: interpersonal (spontaneous speaking and writing), presentational (rehearsed speaking and writing) and interpretive (listening and reading). Classroom communication requires a higher level of language proficiency and takes place exclusively in Chinese.
